What should I do with my kit if I no longer want it?
Kits can be disposed of if you no longer want or need it. Phosphorus is unable to accept kit returns due to contamination risk.
Do the kits expire? What is their shelf life and how do I store them?
Kits have a shelf life of 30 months and can be used at any time within that shelf life by the patient the test was ordered or registered under. Kits should be stored at room temperature. The user instructions included with the collection device (also linked here) specify 15-30 degrees Celsius.
What technology does Phosphorus use to conduct its tests?
Phosphorus is using next-generation sequencing (NGS) testing in our state-of-the-art, CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited laboratory, combined with our proprietary Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) software platform, Elements.
When it comes to detecting predisposition to specific conditions, NGS provides significantly greater coverage than is capable through genotyping. Only NGS has the opportunity to detect the variety of mutations that exist in our diverse population.
What qualifications/certifications does Phosphorus have to conduct genetic tests?
The Phosphorus laboratory is state-of-the-art, College of American Pathologists (CAP)-accredited and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA)-certified. We also completed the rigorous Clinical Laboratory Evaluation Program (CLEP) administered by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) for several of our tests and have been issued its clinical laboratory permit in the category Genetic Testing – Molecular, making our genetic testing services available across all 50 states in the U.S.
Can I drop off my sample at the lab instead of shipping it?
The Phosphorus Laboratory address is 400 Plaza Drive, Secaucus, NJ 07094. The lab is located on the fourth floor of the building and accepts sample drop-offs 9am - 5pm ET Monday-Friday.
We also have a drop box located in the parking area under the building. Next to the freight elevator entrance, you can find a white box labeled "Phosphorus Diagnostics Drop Box", which you can place the sample in. If you utilize the dropbox, please notify our team via call/text at 855.746.7423, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. A team member will retrieve the sample as soon as we are able to.
